Levels describe who you play with. They are not grades.

How a band forms

From a trial class to a first show

  1. 01

    Step 1: Try a class

You sit in on a rehearsal, plug in or pick up sticks, and play with the coach.

  2. 02

Step 2: Your coach places you

The coach suggests a level and a band by age and by what you have played before. You can ask to try another.

  3. 03

Step 3: The band picks a set

The band chooses songs it knows, with the coach, and learns who plays which part.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Rehearse and play

The band rehearses each week and plays a short set at the end of the term.

In the room

What a rehearsal looks like

Students set up their own amps and stands, with a coach beside them. The band tunes up, runs one song, stops, talks about it and runs it again. A rehearsal is 90 minutes, and earplugs are in a basket by the door.

  • Bands of up to six students

  • Students of a similar age and level

  • A coach in the room the whole time
