Questions from parents
What age can a student start?
Students start from age 8 and can stay through 18. Younger students join a First Band, and older students are placed by age and by what they have played.
Does my child need to have played before?
No. A First Band starts with a steady beat and one part of a song. Tell your coach what you can already play and we will place you.
Do we need our own instrument?
For lessons you will want one at home. Ask your teacher before you buy or rent. We have guitars, basses, keyboards and drum kits in the rehearsal rooms.
What is a band?
A band is up to six students of a similar age and level, with a coach. It plays together each week and shares a stage at the end of the term.
How is a band formed?
Your coach suggests a level at a trial class, and we place you with students your age. The band picks its songs together.
What are earplugs for?
A rehearsal room is loud. Earplugs are in every room, and your coach shows you how to wear them.
Can a parent sit in?
Yes, on a first class and on open rehearsal nights. Lesson room doors have a window or stay open.
Does my child have to play in a show?
Shows are part of the program, and every student in a band plays. Students in lessons only can choose whether to join a night.
What happens when a lesson is missed?
A missed lesson can move to another time in the same month. A band rehearsal can't be made up, and your coach will catch you up.
How does tuition work, and how do we leave?
Tuition depends on the program and the lesson length, and we go over our figures at your first class. To leave, tell the front desk a month before the term ends. The tuition page has the details.
Still wondering?
Call the desk, or try a class and ask the coach.
